Planning Your Paris Elopement

Legally Getting Eloped in Paris?

Yes, it is possible to legally get married in Paris. However, there are specific requirements and procedures that must be followed to ensure that your marriage is legally recognized in France. Here are some key points to consider:

  1. Residency Requirement: At least one of the parties must have resided in France for at least 30 days before the wedding. This requirement can be fulfilled by obtaining a residency permit, which may have specific criteria and timeframes.

  2. Documentation: You will need to provide various documents, such as valid passports, birth certificates, and a Certificate of No Impediment (a document stating that you are legally free to marry). These documents will need to be translated into French by an authorized translator and may require an apostille or legalization.

  3. Civil Ceremony: In France, a civil ceremony conducted by a French official is required for a legally recognized marriage. This typically takes place at the local town hall (mairie) in the district where one of the parties resides. The ceremony is usually conducted in French, so an interpreter may be necessary if you do not speak the language.

  4. Marriage License: You will need to apply for a marriage license at the town hall at least 10 days before the wedding. The license is valid for up to one year from the date of issue.

  5. Witnesses: Two witnesses, who are at least 18 years old, must be present during the ceremony.

  6. Legal Assistance: It is advisable to seek legal assistance or work with a local wedding planner who specializes in international weddings. They can guide you through the legal requirements, assist with translations and documentations, and ensure that your marriage is legally valid.

If you're a Canadian couple looking to elope in Paris, there are a few things to consider. First, it's important to do your research and find a reputable wedding planner or photographer who is familiar with the legal requirements for getting married in France. You'll also need to obtain the necessary paperwork, including a valid passport, birth certificate, and certificate of celibacy. Additionally, you may want to consider incorporating some of Paris's iconic landmarks and scenery into your elopement photos, such as the Eiffel Tower or the Seine River. Tips in Eloping in Paris

CEREMONY LOCATION

Many of the hotels in paris make a perfect ceremony location. They can offer rooms with balconies, complete with beautiful views as well as private salons. Another option is to have an intimate ceremony on the streets of Paris. This can be a great solution if you’re staying in a hotel or apartment that is less than ideal in which to hold a small ceremony.

A few tips and things to be aware of when planning a ceremony outdoors:

• Always have a Plan B

The weather in can be unpredictable anywhere we are but especially in France. So male sure we have a plan B another covered location or if you are a lover of rain I have extra handy clear umbrellas to face it.

• Be ready for crowds of tourists

Tourists along with their iPhones tend to flock around ceremonies in public locations, just be prepared for attracting more attention than you’re probably used to.

  • Season + time of the year

Eloping in January can be different than Eloping in middle of august with the busy and hot summer . Think about what matters to you the most what kind of season you prefer paris is experiencing to have your elopement at.

Here are some great outdoor locations I have visited and recommend

  • The Louvre/Palais Royal

  • The Eiffel Tower: Trocadero

  • The quayside Boat Ceremony

  • The Jardin du Luxembourg
